Carbon removal at Gevo North Dakota
Grown above. Stored below.
Local corn grown within 75 miles.
Supplied by 200+ local farming families. Traceable from farm to facility.
Carbon as a co-product of ethanol production.
CO₂ captured at fermentation. Concentrated, purified, ready for permanent storage.
Stored on-site 1.3 miles underground. No transport, no escape.
Injected on-site into the Broom Creek Formation. Mineralizes permanently for 1,000+ years.
“The project enables local farmers to grow and diversify their commodities, and will allow smaller communities like Richardton to thrive.”

Climate finance in the rural economy
When product decisions focus on what the climate needs and what communities deserve, rural economies win. The fuel in the tank, the carbon in the ground, the check in the farmer's pocket.
Gevo is part of the community, working closely with farmers and our neighbors to drive economic and social opportunities.
Verified at every step
Five independent layers of assurance — from biomass sourcing through geological storage.
Dive into the dataCredits certified under the most rigorous standard available for permanent CDR. Public registry listing with full issuance and retirement history.
Continuous digital measurement, reporting and verification from farm input to injection point. Captured on Verity, our purpose-built dMRV platform with independent third-party assurance by Cula.
Audited tracking and separation between CDR and biofuels markets. Credits are issued once, retired once and fully traceable on the Puro.earth registry.
Sustainably sourced feedstock meeting the EU Renewable Energy Directive standard. The supply chain credential corporate buyers and regulators require.
Working with farmers to improve soil health and reduce upstream emissions. We compensate farmers for their traceability participation and support their climate-smart practice adoption.

About Gevo Carbon Removal. Gevo North Dakota (GND) is an operating biological carbon removal and storage (BECCS) facility in Richardton, North Dakota. The facility generates three products in equal proportion: ethanol, food/feed products and CO₂. The project captures carbon dioxide produced during ethanol fermentation from corn, then permanently sequesters it via injection into a deep saline geological formation where it will remain for more than 1,000 years. Gevo North Dakota issues carbon removal credits (CDRs) under the Puro.earth CORC standard (Certificate ID: CORC-173) and has received a BeZero Carbon A rating – the top 10% of rated projects. Gevo issued over 50% of all engineered CDRs in 2025, making it the largest issuer of this credit type globally. Feedstock is supplied by more than 200 local farming families.
